PUG Barcelona

This year's Progress User Group conference took place in Barcelona. With over 500 people attending this is the largest gathering of Progress users, developers, database administrators, infrastructure specialists, sales people, ... And like every year TVH sent its own delegates to participate in the workshops, interact with the guest speakers and share experiences with people from the Progress community.

12 workshops, 85 speakers

Focus was on new features that are available in Progress OpenEdge 12, but also on new industry standards like continuous integration, containers, domain driven development, ... Next to these topics there's always a DBA track and a lot of sessions about best practices and tips & tricks.

There were some sessions about the road map of Progress in the coming year and the main thing there is improved stability and performance in combination with the possibility to change as many system parameters as possible without having the bring your applications down.

Microservices

Another hot topic is the microservice architecture. And with our WB3 project we are pioneering with microservices in an OpenEdge world. So we were invited to share our experiences together with the Progress consultant that helped us in our journey. With a full house during our talk and a lot of questions afterwards it was clear we are not the only ones that want to step away from our monolith. So on to the next step!
