Here at TVH, we love giving back to our community. One of our employees’ favorite ways to give back is through our annual blood drives. Unfortunately, this year has presented some challenges for our blood drives in terms of safety, location, and the number of employees able to donate. That has not stopped us from finding alternatives and making the best out of the situation. In our quest to continue to give back, we were able to find an alternate opportunity for our annual summer blood drive.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we were not able to have the Red Cross come into our Olathe facility. However, we were able to work with the organization to find a solution. We were very excited when the Red Cross offered to bring their Bloodmobile to our facility's parking lot. Once our employees found out we were holding our summer blood drive with the Bloodmobile bus, everyone stepped up to the plate. We set the goal of donating 25 units of blood, which is lower than our usual goal, but space was limited. To our excitement, our Olathe employees quickly started registering.
On the day of the blood drive, we were able to keep every time slot filled, and two of our employees donated blood for the first time! With everyone’s help, we accomplished our 25 unit goal, which is the equivalent of helping 75 people. Even during these challenging times, our employees continue to step up and rise to the occasion by helping others and serving our community.
With such a great turn out during our annual summer blood drive, we have high hopes for our fall drive. We expect to see an even bigger turnout and anticipate doubling our unit goal! While we may not be able to match the numbers of units we have donated in the past, it is magnificent to see our employees still jumping at the chance to give back to our community.
