SSB Maintenance

Your sweeper scrubber machines are a valuable component of keeping your workspace clean and safe for employees. Today, we’ll focus on the key maintenance areas of sweeper scrubbers required to keep your machine running effectively for a long time.

Dirty Water Tank

We recommend putting on your gloves and eye protection for this one. These machines pick up dirt, grime, and bacteria. Step one is to dump the dirty water tank. Before draining, kink or block the drainage hose so you don’t take an early bath. After dumping the dirty water, rinse the tank until clear water flows from the drainage tube, removing any built-up muck in the process. Finish this step by emptying and rinsing the debris hopper daily.

Fresh Water Tank

Check the freshwater fill hose for rips or tears, so everything is in working order for next use. Next, drain the clean water tank daily. The mixture of water and cleaning solution can build up and clog the lines over time. The unused cleaning solution can be drained back into the container to be used for next time. Take out the clean water filter and rinse thoroughly. Put the filter back in the holder securely and mount it back on the machine.

Batteries

Check the batteries regularly, if not every single day. Before operating in this area, take off any jewelry or metal to avoid a startling surprise. Open the battery compartment to inspect the battery cables, terminals, and water levels if applicable. Ensure corrosion around the terminals is brushed away, and apply battery terminal cleaner. If you have a water-filled, or flooded battery, use a hydrometer to check each cell to ensure they are filled with the advised water level. A cycle on the machine is the run time, charge time, and cool down time. Note, that this allows for one cycle per machine per day. Recharging too often or not charging after a completed cleaning job can reduce a 500-cycle battery by 100-200 cycles.

Pads, Drivers & Brushes

Short, sweet, and very important. You’ll want to take off the pads/drivers, remove any large debris, and rinse thoroughly. Rotate the brushes for longer lasting life and an even wear pattern. Depending on your model, rotate the left to the right and vice versa; or swap the front to the back.

Squeegee Maintenance

Start by inspecting the squeegee hose for rips or tears. An uneven distribution of water and solution here can lead to unsightly streaking. Take the squeegee blade off your machine and inspect for tears or abrasion, which will reduce the cleaning effectiveness. Rinse thoroughly. Note that there are four useable edges. After reattaching the squeegee, drop the blade to the floor and move the machine forward. You should see an evenly distributed flare across the edge contacting the floor.

Drive Tires

Visually inspect the drive tires to ensure there is plenty of tread. Check for any pitting or chunked tread, which may occur after encountering rough terrain. Also check the casters on both sides, ensuring they can swivel 360 degrees. Add grease if needed to lubricate the mechanism.
