Internship Program Grows Leaps and Bounds

For many companies, its most important asset is its employees. This has been especially true for TVH as it has grown over the past decade. For the TVH Americas headquarters in Olathe, KS, part of its growth plan has included the recruitment of new talent to the company through the internship program. TVH expanded its official intern program in 2018 and had a total of six students participate that year. Just twelve months later, the program almost doubled in size to a total of 11 interns for 2019.

Students are recruited from both Olathe area schools and the community and can intern in a variety of departments throughout the company including accounting, engineering, HR, marketing, materials and operations. During their time with the company, they have the opportunity to gain experience working on real-world projects while learning how to work in a professional environment.

Nathan Taylor, a TVH Engineering Manager began working on TVH’s internship program in the fall of 2014 by attending a career fair. He wanted to start the program because in his words “I did two terms of internship when I was in college and I found it tremendously helpful. If we see that benefit in our hiring [improving the quality of talent available to TVH for the future], we should be willing to be part of that program.”

Many of our interns receive offers for full-time employment upon the completion of their time at TVH. Current Business Operations Trainee, Ryan Thompson interned at TVH in 2018. As a Business Administration major, the opportunity to work in a real office environment was invaluable. He spent his summer working in the Operations department where he had the opportunity to work on time studies in the packaging department, rework the racking system in the warehouse to make it more efficient and assist with reclassifying the tariff codes for the United States and Belgium. Ryan’s advice for students considering interning at TVH? “Look past the company being a ‘parts’ company as TVH has so much more to offer. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. Of all of the places I have worked, TVH has the nicest people.”

TVH will attend at least eight career fairs this fall to recruit interns for the summer of 2020. Bryan Brazil, Talent Acquisition Supervisor for TVH, hopes to hire at least 10 interns for the year. He sees the program continuing to grow as TVH looks to invest in the future by working with the Olathe community and beyond to continue bringing talent to TVH.
