Tom Verbauwhede (28) has two passions: TVH and gardens. Thanks to the shift system and the flexibility with regard to leave, he can combine both. Before or after the working hours at TVH, you can find Tom working as a gardener.
Tom’s start at TVH, 10 years ago, was actually scheduled to be just a temporary job. “I was a horticulture student. But as a gardener you are bound to the seasons. After my studies I started as a temporary employee with TVH. This temporary job was in fact intended to bridge the winter, but I loved doing the work. I ended up in a group of people where there was a good atmosphere and with great colleagues who are always ready for each other. Gradually the passion for my work has grown. And the longer I work here, the more I learn. I really flourish here.”
“Training others by passing on my knowledge, gives me a great sense of satisfaction.”
There's no chance of Tom getting stuck in a function. “At a certain moment I became restless and wanted to share all the knowledge I acquired with other people. I made a suggestion to my responsibles during an evaluation. Shortly after I was indeed given permission to train new colleagues. And it is really satisfying to pass on my knowledge. You also get chances to help out on other departments such as prepack, packaging, warehousing … This makes the job even more varied and you get to know many people. And catching up - even with colleagues from other departments - is possible during one of the TVH Kaffees that are organized by the TVH party committee.”
