HOW TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT CHAIN LENGTH IN THE EASIEST WAY?
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT LEAF CHAINS
Leaf chains are a type of roller chain commonly used in applications that require heavy-duty lifting or pulling, such as forklifts, tractors and small earth-moving equipment. They are designed to handle high loads and provide reliable power transmission in demanding environments.
Leaf chains are commonly used in lifting applications such as forklifts, where they are utilised to raise and lower the lifting mast. They are also employed in tractors and small earth-moving equipment to transfer power from the engine to various attachments or implements, such as loaders or backhoes. The robust construction and durability of leaf chains make them well-suited for these tasks, ensuring efficient and safe operation of the machinery.
HOW TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT CHAIN LENGTH?
Replacing a chain on your machine means you need to determine the length of the chain to order the correct one, tailor-made to your specific application.
Fortunately, there is an easy way to determine the correct length:
1. count the outer plates (#) marked in red
2. multiply the (#) outer plates x 2
3. add 1
4. multiply this result by the pitch (p) in mm
5. divide by 1000
This gives us the following formula: (((# outer plates x 2) + 1) x p) / 1000
The result is the chain length, expressed in meters.
