Everything you need to know about air brakes
AIR BRAKES
Air brakes are a very, very reliable safety feature for your machine because air is used to conduct braking power instead of fluids. This prevents major malfunctions. To ensure maximal braking power, regular maintenance is advised. We have a wide range of air brake parts, ranging from camshafts and cylinders to repair kits.
Technical questions about air brakes? Looking for a very specific part? No problem for our dedicated team. One thing is certain: our extensive range of air brakes keeps you going.
- A team of specialists to answer your technical questions

DISCOVER OUR RANGE OF AIR BRAKES
At TVH, we do everything in our power to keep your machines going. How? A combination of fast delivery times and one of the most extensive ranges of air brake parts on the market. Together, we will find the correct part for your specific situation.
A glimpse of our air brake range:
- Camshafts: a vital air brake part. By pushing the brake shoes outwards, heavy-duty vehicles quickly come to a complete stop.
- Compressors: a perfect fit for air brakes in buses and trucks. The compressor efficiently pumps compressed air into reservoirs, where it is stored to be used by the braking system.
- Cylinders: no cylinders means no pressure. Our high-quality air brake cylinders ensure safe braking.
- Pedals: an indispensable air brake part which controls the air pressure.
- Repair kits: everything you need to keep your air brakes in mint condition.
- Slack adjusters: a system to easily adjust the brakes when needed.
- Valves: a control valve which operates the brakes. Regular maintenance, or replacement, is advised
HOW AIR BRAKES WORK
An air brake is a type of friction brake for vehicles in which the compressed air pressing on a piston is used to apply pressure to the brake pad or shoe.
- The compressed air is created by a compressor while an air dryer stops moisture particles from entering the air braking system.
- The air is stored in air barrels until needed.
- A valve, such as a brake pedal or handbrake valve, ensures the correct components that provide braking are energised.
- These components, mostly air brake cylinders, press on a piston in the brake caliper (in case of a disc brake) or slack adjuster (in case of a drum brake) which results in braking.
- Each part has his own specific installation method.
