Machine radiator maintenance: 3 tips and tricks to keep it cool
Free the debris
Debris that accumulates in the radiator greatly affects optimal airflow. If not removed, this debris can build up and clog the system. This will eventually result in overheating of the engine. It is recommended to regularly use a vacuum cleaner or cloth.
Check fluids on a regular basis
Frequently checking the coolant - both the colour and consistency - is an ideal way of detecting potential cooling problems early. It just takes a few minutes and with a little investigation, the operator is able to fix minor issues before they transform into something much bigger. Even an extremely low coolant level can cause serious damage elsewhere.
Adding the correct coolant and a thorough checkup every 5 years are steps in the right direction. But most importantly: whenever an orange warning light comes on, stop the machine right away. Immediately shutting down the machine will prevent a lot of unnecessary damage.
Check the radiator cap
A small, but vital radiator part. A cap that isn’t functioning properly will result in under- or overpressure. That is why it is the first thing that needs to be checked when adding coolant.
