TVH RAISES AWARENESS AMONG CYCLISTS IN INDUSTRIAL ZONE WAREGEM-ZUID
As it does every year, parts specialist TVH in Waregem organised a special awareness campaign at the beginning of the school year to raise awareness about the blind spot. On Monday, 4 September, a team of TVH employees was waiting for passing cyclists along the Vichtseweg. The TVH team distributed coffee cakes and informed young cyclists about the risks involved in heavy goods vehicles.
Frederik Hanssens (Safety, Health & Environment Manager at TVH): "Avoiding blind spot accidents is a priority for TVH. This is only possible if both cyclists and lorry drivers are aware of the blind zones surrounding a vehicle." During the awareness campaign, Frederik and his colleagues stressed the importance of traffic safety, and gave practical advice on how to prevent accidents.
150 CYCLISTS PER HOUR
Passers-by were also treated to coffee cakes and were reminded to be extra careful near large vehicles. "Every day during rush hours, more than 150 cyclists pass along the Vichtseweg here", Frederik explains. "It's a busy road with also a lot of heavy goods vehicles. That's why it's so important to organise this action here."
TVH also takes action to limit cargo traffic to a minimum. For instance, most trucks are diverted to other loading docks. Lorry drivers still needing to load or unload in the Vichtseweg are given instructions on how to do this in the safest way possible.
